EcoTech Begins Parkway Turf Removal Program

Starting in April 2024, EcoTech Services and West Basin Municipal Water District will initiate the removal of turf from 25 parkways, each averaging 400 square feet in a program called the Direct Install Parkway Program. On average, water savings within the renovated areas are projected to range from 40 to 60 percent. This program will be done in separate stages starting from a landscape consultation to project sign-off and maintenance education. EcoTech will provide the turf removal service with dumping, irrigation conversion, planting, and ground cover. EcoTech is proud to partner with West Basin Municipal Water District to implement this exciting water conservation program to help West Basin’s residential customers become a part of the solution.

About the Direct Install Parkway Program:

The West Basin Direct Install Parkway Program aims to remove turf from 25 parkways, with an average size of 400 square feet each, as part of water conservation efforts. By replacing turf with drought-tolerant landscaping, such as native plants and water-efficient features, the program aims to achieve significant water savings. Estimated water savings will vary based on factors such as local climate conditions and irrigation practices but could range from hundreds to thousands of gallons per year per parkway. Through this initiative, the program seeks to promote sustainable landscaping practices, reduce water consumption, and enhance the resilience of parkway landscapes in the region.

About West Basin Municipal Water District:

West Basin Municipal Water District is a California water agency that provides drinking water and recycled water to cities in the South Bay and Westside regions of Los Angeles County. They focus on water conservation, recycling, and sustainable water management to ensure a reliable water supply for their customers.
